Pope Francis instituted the celebration of Sunday of the Word of God with the signing of the Apostolic Letter in the form of "Motu proprio" Aperuit illis, in which he said:
"Devoting a specific Sunday of the liturgical year to the word of God can enable the Church to experience anew how the risen Lord opens up for us the treasury of his word and enables us to proclaim its unfathomable riches before the world.”.
The Sunday of the Word of God aims to highlight the importance of biblical texts in our lives as light to walk together on the path of God. This celebration invites us to dedicate a few minutes of our days to read the Word of God, meditate and engage in conversation with God through that Word.
But how to meditate and live the Word? From different Church institutions, it is being pointed out that the steps of lectio divina are the ideal method to discover the richness of the biblical text: reading (What does the text say?); meditation (What is God saying to me with this text?); prayer (How do I dialogue with God with what the text tells me?); contemplation (How do I feel the presence of God in my life?); action (How do I put the message of the Word into practice in my real life?).
So, this Sunday, January 22, is a good time to start reading, and living, the Word of God!
