Thursday Second Week of Easter April 23

 “We gave you strict orders, did we not, to stop teaching in that name...But Peter and the Apostles said in reply, ‘We must obey God rather than men. The God of our ancestors raised Jesus, though you had him killed by hanging him on a tree. God exalted him at his right hand as leader and savior to grant Israel repentance and forgiveness of sins.  We are witnesses of these things, as is the Holy Spirit whom God has given to those who obey him,” (Acts 5:28-32).

“It is Jesus that you seek when you dream of happiness; He is waiting for you when nothing else you find satisfies you; He is the beauty to which you are so attracted; it is He who provoked you with that thirst for fullness that will not let you settle for compromise; it is He who urges you to shed the masks of a false life; it is He who reads in your hearts your most genuine choices, the choices that others try to stifle,” (St. John Paul II).

Father, so much in the world tells us that Jesus got it wrong.  That we have no need of a savior, and indeed, we ourselves are all we need.  Help us to be a witness to the truth always, to be strong in the knowledge that we have been bought with the price of His blood, and that our home is in Him.  Amen

Segundo Jueves de Pascua, 23 de  abril

 “Les habíamos advertido y prohibido ensenar en hombre de ese. Pero ahora en Jerusalén no se oye más que su predicación y quieren echarnos la culpa por la muerte de ese hombre.” Pedro y los apóstoles respondieron: “Hay que obedecer a Dios antes que a los hombres. El dios de nuestros padres resucitó a Jesús, a quien ustedes dieron muerte colgándolo de un madero. Dios lo exaltó y lo puso a su derecha como Jefe y Salvador para dar a Israel la conversión y el perdón de los pecados. Nosotros somos testigos de esto y lo es también el Espíritu Santo, que Dios ha dado a los que le obedecen,” (Hechos 5:28-32).

 “Es Jesús al que buscan cuando sueñan con la felicidad; Él los espera cuando nada de lo que encuentran los satisface; El es la belleza a la que se sienten tan atraídos; es Él quien los provoca con esa sed de plenitud  que no les permite hacer concesiones; es Él quien los insta que se deshagan de la máscara de una vida falsa; es Él quien lee en su corazón sus más genuinas resoluciones, las resoluciones que otros tratan de sofocar,” (San Juan Pablo II).

Padre, tantas cosas en el mundo nos dicen que Jesús estaba equivocado. Que no necesitamos un salvador, y de hecho, que solo nos necesitamos a nosotros mismos. Ayúdanos a ser testigos de la verdad siempre, a ser fuertes en el conocimiento de que hemos sido comprados con el precio de Su sangre, y que nuestro hogar está con Él. Amen
